Warning Sirens
Note: The City of Pea Ridge will test the outdoor warning sirens on the second Friday of each month at noon, weather permitting. During the test the sirens will sound once. There may be a time where additional testing will be conducted to ensure all warning sirens are operational. The sirens will also perform a weekly “growl” test which will be very brief but may be audible near the siren. The specific guidelines for sounding sirens vary by jurisdiction. The City of Pea Ridge uses a steady tone for the sirens. During severe weather, the activation of the tornado warning system means the National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for the city or portion of, or there is a confirmed tornado sighting. All citizens should take protective shelter at this time. The warning sirens may be activated multiple times as the threat approaches and depending on how far out the known threat is. The siren may also sound upon the issuance of a severe thunderstorm warning with the “destructive” classification which would indicate winds more than 80 mph and/or hail 2.75” or larger.
** The City of Pea Ridge would like to remind the citizens that this warning system is designed to alert people that are outside. People inside of a building might not hear the warning sirens and should use a radio, television or NOAA weather alert radio as means of monitoring weather conditions. You may also sign up for alerts through www.bcalert.com, this will allow you to get alerts to your cell phone, home phone, text message, and email.
